Context:

Considering the current geopolitical situation, which demonstrates the need to achieve a greater energy autonomy in Europe and accelerate the energy transition, phasing out unsustainable sources, it is relevant to address questions and remove obstacles to the development of renewable energies. In particular, as evidenced in the EU’s Blue Growth Strategy, the Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy, the Blue Economy Report 2022, and the RePowerEU Communication published in May 2022, Offshore Renewable Energies (ORE) have an important role to play.

More research and investments are necessary to foster the development of offshore wind energy and to exploit the full potential of emerging sectors, such as ocean energy, while ensuring a sustainable use of natural resources and the protection of the marine environment.

With this event, the SEArica Intergroup aims at showcasing the contribution of the ORE sector to energy transition and discussing together with representatives from the EU institutions, regional authorities and relevant stakeholders about how to boost its development at EU level, overcoming current challenges and barriers.
